Lullaby entry day 2:

Flappie.

It was Christmas morning 1961

I remember it so well

My rabbit hutch was empty

And mother told me not to come into the shed

And if I went to play nicely that I got some treats

She didn't know where Flappie could be either

She would ask Dad because he was busy

I only had to spend an hour in that bicycle shed

Look carefully for Flappie

He must have walked somewhere on the grass

But didn't I close the loft properly?

Like I did every night

I even went back the night before

I don't know why I did that either

I had stood in front of the loft for a long time as if I knew

What I know now

It was Christmas Day 1961

We are looking for Flappie,

Father, he just searched along

Near the trees and the water

But not in that bicycle shed

Because it couldn't be there, could it?

And I shook no

We searched together, together for coffee

The family had coffee, but I didn't have to

I thought about Flappie and that it could freeze so cold at night

My head bowed silently, thick tears of grief

Because I had closed the loft properly, right?

Like I did every night

I even went back the night before

I don't know why I did that either

I had stood in front of the loft for a long time as if I knew

What I know now

It was Christmas Day 1961

There was noisy eating but that didn't really affect me

I thought of Flappie, my own little Flappie

Where would it run, not a bite went down my throat

When after the soup was to come the main course

My father spoke extremely funny "Look Youp there is Flappie then"

And I can still see the silver bowl and there it was in 3 pieces

For the first time I saw my father as a terrible man

And I went to bed screaming and stamping

First I cried for an hour on the bedspread

Stood cursing at the top of the stairs one more time

And screamed Flappie was mine

Stood in front of the window for a long time, but the loft was left empty

It was Boxing Day 1961

Mother remembers that so well, father's bed was empty

And I told her not to come into the shed

And if she was going to play nicely that she would get a treat

Not a big sop heart story but, I love and hate wrapping presents... It's so can annoying yet satisfying when you get a cold perfect and the wrapping just lines up nics.. Perfection unless it's my mrs wrapping which is so untidy and annoying.

20 presents down, 30 to go... Me and the mrs got rather drunk/high doing all these so nice bit of time together to have a laugh and talk about stupid memories from last xmas

Biggest thing about Christmas for me is my family, we are all spread over the country but every Christmas 27 of us cram into my nan's small living room and overflow into the kitchen 😂, the mass chaos when she would shout "dinners ready" like a stampede ahaha... We'd all pig out as my nan always cooks x10 to much then later on in the evening some of us have a drink and we all play games share stupid family stories and well just be happy and enjoy all being under one roof
